About this paper
Alexander B. Boyd, Dibyendu Mandal, James P. Crutchfield
The paper analyzes a three-state thermal ratchet that extracts work from temporal correlations in an apparently unbiased binary tape. The ratchet uses memory states A, B, and C to track an alternating pattern and recover its phase after slips. For phase-slip probability c, positive average work is possible only when c < 1/(1+e), a boundary for this design.
