The method estimates where cortical excitability changes during seizures by modeling excitatory gain as a slowly varying spatial field, separate from faster neural activity. It updates this field from successive windows of ECoG spectra. In simulations, explained variation exceeded 0.99; in two patients, it exceeded 0.85, while inferred gain rose near seizure end then dissipated during termination in these recordings.
