The 4+1 view model describes complex software architectures through logical, process, development, and physical views, each addressing different concerns, plus scenarios that connect them. Scenarios help discover architectural elements and later illustrate and validate the architecture through iterative prototyping. Kruchten reports successful use on several large projects, but provides no controlled comparison or quantitative outcome measure.
