The authors developed a video-based model to predict post-operative right ventricular failure in patients receiving a left ventricular assist device. It processes grayscale echocardiogram clips and optical flow, rather than relying only on selected measurements. On 121 test patients, its ROC AUC—area under the sensitivity-versus-false-positive-rate curve—was 0.729, versus 0.579 for clinicians; readers also assessed 86 additional validation patients, and clinical benefit remains untested.
