About this paper

Mahendran Subramanian, Suhyung Park, Pavel Orlov, Ali Shafti, A. Aldo Faisal

The authors present a gaze-controlled autonomous wheelchair that identifies the viewed object and uses gaze position relative to it to classify a look as an intended destination or incidental. A wink confirms the decoded goal before navigation. Obstacle avoidance reached 95±5% for static and 90±6.12% for dynamic obstacles in a proof-of-concept evaluation involving only two subjects, not wheelchair users.
