About this paper
V. Degli-Esposti, E. M. Vitucci, M. Di Renzo, S. Tretyakov
The authors extend ray-based simulation to model reflective reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) redirecting energy into non-specular modes alongside reflection, diffraction, and diffuse scattering. The model balances power and calculates reradiation using integral or antenna-array formulations. For a 7 × 7 m RIS at 3 GHz, the formulations differ by below 1–2% at observation points; this agreement is not experimental validation.
