About this paper
Stephen Ellis, Shuofei Zhu, Nobuko Yoshida, Linhai Song
The authors propose a Go generics translation that erases generic types and passes method dictionaries at call sites instead of specializing each instance. In a constructed call-chain benchmark, specialization-based translators show exponential code-size and compilation-time growth, while dictionary passing and erasure show polynomial code-size growth. These results concern the benchmark, not Go 1.18 compiler performance.
