About this paper

The authors present an 86-cm, seven-joint limbless robot whose bilateral cables tune joint compliance, allowing terrain contact to reshape a prescribed traveling wave without collision feedback. In rigid-post lattices, compliance near G = 0.75 produced the best wave efficiency, and the robot approached C. elegans in movement and performance. This result is limited to laboratory lattices and does not establish passive worm locomotion.
