About this paper
Ishit Mehta, Manmohan Chandraker, Ravi Ramamoorthi
The authors introduce topological derivatives for inverse rendering, estimating whether small changes away from an existing boundary would improve an image match. In 2D, the method supports hole and phase nucleation; in 3D, it acts at visible surface points under assumptions of locally constant radiance and curvature. Synthetic examples show topology recovery; the 3D derivation does not establish phase nucleation.
