LanGWM trains a visual world model for navigation using object-level language descriptions as auxiliary supervision: descriptions of masked objects help shape visual features, while depth reconstruction and reward prediction support spatial learning. In simulated held-out scenes, it reaches an average success rate of 6.8, outperforming the listed non-foundation-model baselines, though it remains well below a DreamerV2 system using Grounding DINO.
Key insights
- Object-level language supervision can improve a visual representation for navigation even when the agent receives no meaningful language descriptions at test time.
- Combining semantic cues with depth reconstruction is intended to retain both object context and the spatial information needed for control.
- The results indicate an advantage over several conventional baselines in this simulator setup, but do not establish a deployment-efficiency advantage over foundation-model-based systems.
