About this paper
Florian Chabot, Nicolas Granger, Guillaume Lapouge
GaussianBeV introduces the first optimization-free, scene-agnostic approach to generate a 3D Gaussian representation directly from multi-view images for real-time Bird's-eye View (BeV) semantic segmentation. The method achieves new state-of-the-art results on the nuScenes dataset, improving vehicle segmentation by +3.5 IoU and pedestrian segmentation by +2.7 IoU compared to previous leading methods.
Key insights
- Optimization-free 3D Gaussian representations can effectively model fine-grained geometric and semantic scene details, like lane boundaries and vehicle contours, for real-time perception tasks.
- The BeV feature map generated by the Gaussian Rasterizer is intrinsically rich in geometric and semantic information, suggesting the Gaussian representation itself is a powerful encoding of the 3D scene.
- Predicting 3D offsets and flexible rotations for Gaussians is crucial, allowing them to refine their positions beyond optical rays and adapt their orientation to scene structures for optimal performance.
