About this paper
Cedric Martens, Mikhail Bessmeltsev
The authors compute generalized winding numbers from surface boundaries, avoiding integration over the full surface. They partition directions around each query point into regions and propagate signed ray-intersection counts between them. On 1,000 cubic Bézier curves queried on regular grids, the method took 5,074 ms versus 20,131 ms for the prior method, but was slower on unstructured queries.
