About this paper
T. Becker, R. Smet, B. Macharis, K. Vanthournout
The authors present a data-driven method for estimating low-voltage feeder-peak size and timing from real smart-meter traces. They repeatedly combine quarter-hour profiles from 2022 Flemish households into simulated 40-connection feeders. Average peak contributions are 1.2 kilowatts for heat pumps, 1.4 for EVs, and 2.0 for EVs charging above 6.5 kilowatts. High-power EV feeders show late-night peaks; these are sampled estimates, not observed grid violations or future forecasts.
