About this paper

Yunze Wei, Maria Attarian, Igor Gilitschenski

GeoMatch++ extends GeoMatch by representing gripper links and joints as a graph, then using attention to relate that structure to object geometry. In IsaacGym simulation, it averages 71.67% success across three held-out grippers, versus 62.03% for GenDexGrasp. A point-cloud-only control averages 49.16%, but these results do not establish transfer to real robots or arbitrary hands.

Key insights

  • Explicitly encoding and correlating robot morphology with object geometry via transformer-based attention is crucial for achieving robust zero-shot generalization to unseen end-effectors.
  • The combination of kinematic chain information (joints) and physical link properties (size, center of mass) provides a comprehensive morphological representation that enhances grasping transferability.
  • Utilizing pretrained and frozen geometric feature encoders from prior work stabilizes training and optimizes performance when integrating new morphology-aware components.
