About this paper
Sze Ming Lee, Yunxiao Chen
The authors propose a head-to-head model that estimates matchup-specific probabilities while constraining their pattern to be compact. Its nuclear-norm constraint allows cycles beyond one global player ranking. On held-out StarCraft II matches, accuracy is 0.766 versus 0.713 for Bradley–Terry (BT), and log-likelihood is −1,897,946 versus −2,137,115; on tennis, BT is slightly better on both measures.
