About this paper

Mingzhi Yuan, Zihan Zou, Wei Hu

QMe14S is a comprehensive spectral dataset for 186,102 small organic molecules, expanding elemental coverage to 14 elements and 47 functional groups with properties derived from both equilibrium and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. Machine learning models, such as DetaNet, trained on QMe14S accurately predict diverse molecular properties and simulate IR, Raman, and NMR spectra with high fidelity.

Key insights

  • Achieving a balanced approach to dataset construction, combining targeted molecule selection from public databases with high-fidelity quantum chemical computations, can significantly enhance chemical diversity while remaining computationally efficient.
  • Incorporating molecular properties from non-equilibrium configurations, obtained via AIMD simulations, is crucial for training machine learning models that can accurately capture dynamic molecular behavior and simulate spectra under various conditions.
  • The inclusion of a wide array of properties, especially higher-order tensors (e.g., first hyperpolarizability, octupole moment) and their derivatives, is vital for developing robust geometric deep learning models capable of predicting complex molecular phenomena and diverse spectroscopic signals.
