About this paper

Chirag Rao, Eytan Modiano

The paper compares satellite topologies with repeating connection patterns against general regular networks. In a torus model, degree-three and degree-four symmetric topologies have average shortest-path length scaling as the square root of satellite count N, while general regular topologies have logarithmic scaling. For degree four, the symmetric lower bound is about 0.47√N; fixed-range logarithmic scaling is established only under dense-construction assumptions.
