About this paper

Marco Minici, Cristian Consonni, Federico Cinus, Giuseppe Manco

The authors audit how three web-connected news assistants select linked outlets across 24 English-language topics using U.S. settings and compare them with Google News. They measure distinct outlet domains and repeated appearances, not readers’ exposure or systems’ internal reasons. GPT-4o-Mini averaged 11.12 outlets versus Google News’s 19.82; Gemini-2.0-Flash was not significantly different, limiting the finding to this audit.
