About this paper
Lili Bao, Bin Xiao, Shihui Ying, Stefan Sommer
The authors present two-dimensional image registration that lets regions on either side of a supplied boundary deform smoothly while sliding relative to each other. Their groupoid-based framework represents piecewise-diffeomorphic motion and balances image similarity against flow cost. On a synthetic rectangle, relative sum of squared differences is 6.25%, versus 10.98% for LDDMM and 7.78% for TV; boundaries are supplied, not detected.
