TopoGS reconstructs scenes by using segmented image boundaries to constrain where 3D planes meet during optimization. It initializes adjacencies from planar regions, compares projected plane-intersection lines with shared boundaries, and combines topology constraints with anchoring. On ScanNet++ scenes, removing topology worsens Chamfer Distance from 6.01 to 6.54 and 5-cm F-score from 70.18 to 64.98; models need not be watertight.
Key insights
- Explicitly integrating topological relationships as fundamental geometric constraints directly into the 3DGS optimization pipeline significantly enhances global structural coherence and robustness against noise.
- A tri-consistency optimization framework (photometric, geometric, and topological) enables the joint refinement of appearance, geometry, and topological adjacency, leading to higher-fidelity scene structures.
- Leveraging semantic segmentation boundaries from foundation models and analytically determined 3D intersection lines helps resolve ambiguities and ensures adjacent planes converge precisely at shared geometric anchors.
