A new framework, MVFM-3DAD, redefines unsupervised 3D anomaly detection and localization as density proxy estimation through multi-view flow matching, leveraging 2D representations. The method attained mean O-AUROC of 90.8% and P-AUROC of 96.0% on Real3D-AD, and 95.9% O-AUROC and 95.3% P-AUROC on MVTec3D-AD, surpassing prior state-of-the-art approaches.
Key insights
- Reformulating 3D anomaly detection as flow-guided density proxy estimation offers a more robust framework than traditional memory-based or reconstruction-based approaches, addressing their common failure modes.
- Integrating multi-view 2D representations with a bidirectional geometric projector effectively leverages mature 2D vision encoders for 3D tasks while ensuring precise 3D localization.
- Flow matching enables efficient learning of continuous transport dynamics to model normal feature distributions and estimate density proxies, bypassing computationally intensive Jacobian evaluations.
