About this paper
Ishtia Zahir, Eslam Saleh, Maryam Rezayati, Güunter Grabher, Gaffar Hossain
The authors develop a textile capacitive sensor from silver-coated yarn covered with PDMS and twisted into one-, two-, or four-layer configurations. The sensor detects proximity and contact pressure, while layer count changes its electrical response. Four layers reach 0.1331 MPa⁻¹ at 100 kHz; maximum ranges are 60, 50, and 40 mm, respectively, establishing a trade-off rather than a sole-cause mechanism.
