About this paper
Eleftheria Tetoula-Tsonga, George Arvanitakis, Theodoros Giannakas
Minerals in the Wild pairs hyperspectral images and X-ray fluorescence measurements from 1,132 rock specimens. The authors estimate specimen-level elemental composition by filtering USGS reference spectra for each pixel before convex optimization. Compared with MaxCorr, the method raises median cosine similarity from 0.577 to 0.773 and lowers squared L2 loss from 0.221 to 0.150; XRF provides elemental, not mineralogical, targets.
