About this paper

Samuel Audia, Shrey Patel, Dinesh Manocha, Matthias Zwicker

DiffRayve combines differentiable ray tracing and wave propagation to model diffraction across compound optical systems. It tracks phase and polarization, computing surface currents throughout the system so multiple diffractive elements can be represented. In simulation, optimization reduced off-axis point-spread-function error by 66% at 4°, while paraxial performance changed little. This high-frequency approximation is not a full-wave solver or experimental validation.
