About this paper

The paper treats context compression as a runtime policy with separate choices for what, when, and how much to change. It evaluates 65 policies across three open-weight models and two coding benchmarks, measuring success, tokens, latency, and estimated input cost. On Terminal-Bench, Qwen used roughly one-third the tokens yet took 1.2–1.8× as long; benchmark results do not establish production behavior.
