The authors introduce 2D-SG, a training-free denoising method that smooths spectrograms across time and frequency before building a noise mask. In one sperm-whale recording, a click near 16 seconds is more apparent after 2D-SG than after Noisereduce. On the starling benchmark at 15 dB input SNR, mean Seg-SNR is 2.36 versus 1.48; this does not establish improved detection.
