About this paper
Simon Josef Durstewitz, Denis Buehler
The authors propose a framework for measuring sharedness and idiosyncrasy in concept definitions. They encode whole definitions as sentence embeddings and analyze every participant pair with a crossed random-effects model. In a study of 125 participants and nine concepts, definitions predicted typicality choices above chance, and idiosyncrasy was positive for all nine; the findings are illustrative, not general conclusions.
