About this paper

Jessica Gumowski, Julian Finn, Krishna Manaswi Digumarti, David Howard

The authors present a soft continuum arm that changes its bending shape by using pneumatically actuated bistable shells to anchor one tendon at selected points. In bench-top tests, anchor choice changed curvature and tip paths; the arm reached a target with upward or downward tip motion. Shells 8–10 did not bend it at the tested pull, limiting the demonstrated anchor range.
