About this paper

Robin Young, Srinivasan Keshav

The authors unpack annual satellite embeddings into sparse feature families and test their activations against independent records of mapped land disturbances. Across 14 disturbance settings, families dated 85% of held-out units within prespecified windows, while a matched comparison found stronger small-fire signal in Tessera than AlphaEarth. These results concern tested products and mapped events, not all phenomena or causal explanations.
