About this paper
Garrick Chan, Yun-Hsin Kuo, Sam Yu-Te Lee, Yinuo Tang, Kwan-Liu Ma
The authors propose a probe for inspecting how charts support different readings, generating interpretations from simulated personas and comparing their statements. In a U.S. unemployment-chart case, under a benchmark-focused question, statements mentioning the 8% target increased from 8/16 to 13/14, and Compatible statement-pair labels rose from 24.8% to 44.0%. These are model-generated comparisons, not evidence of improved human understanding.
