About this paper
Luca Biferale, Michele Buzzicotti
The authors argue that trustworthy, turbulence-specific validation is the key bottleneck for generative models, rather than increasingly elaborate architectures. They describe diffusion models that sample flow reconstructions conditioned on observations and discuss CoNFiLD, which reconstructs 400×100 channel-flow fields from inputs as coarse as 4×1. Its energy spectra are closer to direct numerical simulation than bicubic interpolation, demonstrating reconstruction, not full fidelity or solver replacement.
