HILMARTS turns registration of a preoperative 3D model to a patient into a two-stage, user-guided process: a surgeon aligns it in augmented reality on an iPad, then LiDAR surface data and point-cloud algorithms refine the match. In a 16-participant phantom study, mean target registration error fell from 12.82 to 3.31 millimetres after refinement (p = 0.0052); clinical accuracy remains unvalidated.
