About this paper

Misha Padidar, Teresa Huang, Mark Goldstein, Michael Czekanski, Jeffrey Soules

The authors introduce BoSS, a benchmark pairing stellarator equilibria with fast-ion simulations to support design generation and prediction of losses, heat deposition, and trajectories. It contains roughly 180,000 equilibria and over 100 million trajectories. In finite-pressure inverse design, diffusion produced a 60.9% low-loss rate versus 37.6% for SurrogateOpt, but target protocols differed; this measures fast-ion confinement, not overall reactor performance.
