About this paper
Rifat Ara Proma, Paul Rosen
The authors compare 19 time-series simplification methods, grouping them as transformers, point reducers, and aggregators. They evaluate preservation of 12 computationally defined visual features with 21 metrics across 80 datasets and parameter sweeps. Gaussian filtering receives the modal A grade on all 21 metrics, but these computational grades neither measure human judgments nor establish a best method for every task.
