About this paper
Tae-Young Kim, Jiwoo Chung, Jae-Pil Heo
The authors develop a 3D Gaussian Splatting density-control method that estimates local loss effects to guide splitting, cloning, and opacity decay. It jointly adjusts position and spatial scale when splitting and selects opacity changes predicted to help reconstruction. On Mip-NeRF360, it reports PSNR 27.72±0.02 with 1.9 million Gaussians, versus 3DGS at 27.35 with 3.4 million. A fixed-view test found reduced loss on 131 of 144 updates, not across views or scenes.
