The authors study flow over time when transit delays and gains or losses affect delivery. They prove that, for any fixed sink demand and horizon, an optimal plan exists without intermediate storage, even with gains. In a lossy example, changing routes delivers 3/2, while repeated path rates deliver at most 1; this does not show storage is necessary.
