About this paper
Daigo Suhara, Tomoko Yonezawa
The authors test whether finger movements shape impressions of a hugging robot with five independently driven fingers. In a within-subjects study of 20 participants, asynchronous rather than simultaneous movement, and multiple rather than single movements, raised ratings that the robot was “strongly seeking me out” (F=5.318, p=.033; F=4.498, p=.047). These self-reports indicate perceived seeking under tested conditions, not robot intentions or general benefits.
