About this paper

Stefano Bianchini, Georgiana-Ioana Coroama

The paper examines how scientific teams’ credited task assignments changed after ChatGPT’s release. Using CRediT statements for 117,211 PLOS ONE papers from 2018–2025, the authors find that participation fell below prior trends in five of six task domains, while authors’ task portfolios and collaborators’ task overlap reversed upward trends. These are post-2022 associations, not evidence that LLM use caused the changes.
