About this paper

MetamorphX uses four control moment gyroscopes to simulate changing rotational inertia and viscosity in a handheld VR controller. Feedback varies with angular acceleration or velocity, making motion feel heavier or more resistant without changing the controller’s mass. Tests measured a 60-ms moment rise and usable changes of about 0.01 kg·m² and 0.1 N·s; nine participants gave subjective ratings, but the study did not establish population-wide perceptual accuracy.
